Kershaw Taschenmesser – robuste EDC-Begleiter mit starker Technik

Pete Kershaw, naturbegeisterter Angler, Jäger und Tüftler hatte bei seinen Ausflügen in die Wildnis zu seiner Ausrüstung stets das passende Equipment dabei: wetterfeste Kleidung, Abenteuerlust und selbstverständlich das richtige Messer. 1974 beschloss er diese Leidenschaft zu teilen, um die Natur anderen Menschen noch näher bringen zu können. In Lake Oswego im US-Bundestaat Oregon gründete er nahe einer Zementfabrik das Unternehmen Kershaw. Anfangs stand die Herstellung von Jagd- und Outdoor Messern im Vordergrund.

Auf der anderen Seite des Erdballs, im Land der aufgehenden Sonne, produziert das Unternehmen KAI seit 1908 Klingen von herausragender Qualität und exzellentem Ruf. Präsident und CEO Saijiro Endo II plante Ende der 1970er Jahre einen Wachstumskurs mit starker Konsolidierung vor allem auf dem nordamerikanischen Kontinent. Das Marktpotential, die Philosophie und der unbedingte Qualitätsanspruch waren für beide Seiten maßgebliche Gründe für die gemeinsame Zusammenarbeit, die seitdem Bestand hat.

Mitte der 1990er Jahre lief das erste klappbare Taschenmesser von Kershaw vom Band. Seitdem rückt der Fokus immer mehr auf EDC- sowie taktisch orientierte Messer. Mit einer Erweiterungsinvestition im Jahre 1996 wurde die Produktionsstätte nach Wilsonville verlagert, um das Markpotential optimal auszuschöpfen.

Nachdem sich Pete Kershaw aus dem Tagesgeschäft zurückgezogen hat, leitete Jack Irigashi die operativen Geschicke und lüftete das Unternehmen einmal frisch durch. Der Anspruch: Vorreiter in Qualität, Technologie und Innovation zu werden, um mit einem optimalen Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis weitere Marktanteile zu gewinnen. Die Vision wurde Realität, und Kershaw revolutionierte beispielsweise die federunterstützte Öffnung mit dem SpeedSafe Mechanismus.
