Blade types

The blade type depends on the way the knife is beeing used. For every application a blade type was developed.

Normalklinge

The back of the blade is often straight. Only the belly of the knife is curved. That is one of the reasons the knife is so easy to handle. The shape is well suited to use at home or in the kitchen. This blade type is an allrounder that can be used almost everywhere. Most of the times knives from the north have this kind of shape and are used daily there.

trailingpointknife

Trailing point blade

With the trailing point blade, the back of the blade and the cutting edge are straight. The belly of the knife is very large and long. The point extends over the back of the blade, which is why it is very popular with hunters. This blade is particularly suitable for skinning animals or simply for working on meat. This blade is particularly easy to handle. This is due to the balance of the tip and the often thin blade. Knives with this blade shape are popular with chefs because they cut perfectly. Because of the thin blade, you can get everywhere. Even with a curved blade, you can still cut well.

Droppoint blade

The drop-point blade is particularly popular with hunters. The back of the blade is slightly curved outwards. This makes the knife particularly easy to control and the handling is great. The belly of the knife is very long and thus cuts very well. In addition, the tip is extremely robust, which significantly increases the durability of the knife. The blade shape is sometimes different, but the familiar and popular basic shape remains. The blades are real all-rounders and are often found in EDCs that you can take with you and use everywhere.

Spearpoint blade

The Spear Point blade is a special form of the Drop Point blade. The difference here lies in the upper cutting edge. This is left completely blunt and ground down. This gives the blade a better weight distribution, and the handling is better. This makes it a popular shape for outdoor combat and every-day carry knives.

Clippoint blade

The clippoint blade is known from bowie knives and typical outback/jungle knives. Like the spear-point blade, it has a false edge, but it is slightly inclined towards the tip and is sharp. The tip is set downwards. It thus offers good control and good cutting properties. The back of the blade and the cutting edge are similar to the normal blade. A straight back and straight edge with a large belly.

Dagger blade

The dagger blades have an even construction and two sharp cutting surfaces. The point is exactly in the middle of the blade. The belly is almost non-existent. It is intended for penetrating soft material with the tip. A dagger is not really suitable for cutting. The dagger is an ancient weapon. It has been made in Europe for a very long time. As a dagger, it is also used by combat units all over the world.

Utilityklinge

The utility blade is constructed in the same way as the dagger blade, but with the difference that the upper edge is only sharp at the front. The back of the blade is unsharpened and can therefore also be used as a cutting tool. Popularly used for combat knives and army knives.

Recurve blade

With the recurve blade, the cutting edge is slightly curved inwards. This increases the surface area for better cutting. The back of the blade and the belly of the knife are curved. This improves the handling. It is the most popular shape for hunting knives. The curved edge makes sharpening more complex, but the cutting properties are much better due to the blade shape.

Tanto blade

The Tanto blade is a Japanese blade shape. It has been forged in Japan for over 1000 years. It usually has a completely straight back and belly. The tip is at the level of the back and therefore unsuitable for cutting. Therefore, the tanto belongs to the stabbing weapons. Tanto blades have the absolute sturdiest tips among knives. In America, the blade shape was reworked again and used for combat knives.

Sheepfoot blade

The Sheep-Foot blade is a real speciality. The back of the blade is first straight and then slopes down to the edge. The edge is completely straight all the way to the tip. It is often used for sailor knives or rescue tools. A perfect blade for cutting work. The cutting behaviour offers very precise cutting because of the blade shape.
