Once again, Böker draws inspiration from a classic and world-famous fighter plane. 15,800 examples of the P-51 Mustang low-wing fighter were produced from 1940 to 1948, making it one of the most built military aircraft in the world. The most common series was the P-51 D with just under 8,000 units. The P stands for "Pursuit". It was designed to pursue and defeat enemy aircraft. The special feature of this aircraft was the aerodynamic all-steel construction with the characteristic countersunk rivets. Equipped with the powerful Packard Merlin V-1650 engine, the aircraft reached speeds of up to 700 km/h and had a range of up to 3,300 km. A groundbreaking achievement in its day, it allowed the US Army Air Forces to rule most of the airspace during the Second World War. With six Browning MG53-2 machine guns in the wings and the ability to carry ten 12.7 cm rockets or bombs weighing up to 900 kg, the aircraft began its mission. The lines and the challenge to create an equal knife led Böker to the choice of the P-51. The P-51 Mustang is a folding knife with the elegance, performance and practicality of this propeller plane. The heart of the knife is the 8.5 cm Spearpoint blade made of 80-layer Damascus from original parts of the historic machine. What kind of knife would this be if you didn't use at least one original part? The side view reflects the successful aircraft. The thumbhole represents the plexiglass canopy on the cockpit, which gave the pilot a perfect view. The next highlight is the titanium handle in the look of the weathered light metal plates of the aircraft. The blue blade screw bears the silver US Army Silver Star and the red anodised screws match the colour scheme of the tail rudder. The reliable titanium frame lock is at least as reliable as the aircraft itself. Despite the clean lines, the grip is very comfortable and firm in the hand.
The flipper not only opens the blade quickly, but also mirrors the retractable wheels of the P-51. A titanium clip is attached for safe transport. It allows for tip-up carry. Supplied with a high quality nylon sheath to store and protect the knife.
Do you also love the airplane-like knives that Böker makes, or are you just a total knife freak who loves to own any collector's knife? Then the Böker P-51 Damascus should be your next knife!
