The Messerschmitt BF109 was built from 1935 and was the highest-volume fighter aircraft in the history of aviation. A total of 33,000 aircraft were produced. After the company was renamed Messerschmitt AG, the name of the aircraft was never changed. All later Messerschmitt aircraft possessed the abbreviation ME, which is why the name of the ME109 has stuck in the minds of the public. The ME109 set the step towards a new generation of low-wing fighter aircraft. The aircraft featured retractable landing gear and all-metal construction, which allowed it to withstand much heavier loads. The result was increased speed while maintaining tighter radii, which can be the difference between life and death in a fighter. The two MG 17 machine guns were located in front of the pilot, which the aircraft used to fire at its enemies. These were coupled to the engine so that the projectiles did not hit the propeller blades when fired. As you can see, the ME109 was a well thought out aircraft.
Böker decided to release a knife that would be reminiscent of the Messerschmitt. The design of the knife is based on that of the Messerschmitt. The carbon fiber handle has the typical camouflage pattern of the ME109. A green-gray paint job, set off with yellow, provides an unusual color scheme. The modified drop point blade, of course, hints at many of the BF109's characteristics. The blade break is meant to represent the pilot's cockpit and is visible when closed as well as open. The blade tip features a scor that is meant to represent MG 17 rifles. The flipper of the knife is reminiscent of the deployable landing gear. The Damascus steel used for the blade comes from a Messerschmitt BF 109 that was shot down in the Battle of Britain, near the village of Ashford. Chad Nichols processed the pilot armor and propeller shaft bearing sleeves into a wonderful 80-layer Damascus. Included with the Böker ME-109 Damascus is a high quality case for storage and a certificate of authenticity. The magnificent ME-109 Damascus is a unique collector's knife that fulfills its appeal to the Messerschmitt BF 109 and wears it with honor.
