It all began with a young, enthusiastic blacksmith named Hoyt Buck, who was ahead of his time. He was looking for a way to extend the cutting life of steel. He sold his first knives, all handmade, in 1902, even taking worn, used blades as raw material. After the Second World War (1947), Hoyt and his son Al founded the company HH Buck & Sohn in San Diego.
