The Cold Steel Emperor Katana has an overall length of about 103.5 cm, with a blade length of about 74.9 cm and a blade thickness of 7 mm. The blades of the Emperor series are made of 1060 carbon steel and are tempered to spring hardness and sharpened. Each blade is polished by hand, with the gouge especially polished to a high shine. The handle is about 28.6 cm long and has a ray skin with black silk cord wrapping as well as a brass menuki. The weight of the sword is about 1174 g and it comes with a black lacquered wooden scabbard.
The sword fittings of the Emperor series are made exclusively using traditional materials. The blade (tsuba), grip ferrule (fuchi) and end cap of the grip (kashira) are elaborately handcrafted from nickel silver. The blade ferrule (habaki) is also handcrafted from nickel silver. The ray skin inlay on the hilt (samé) is wrapped in traditional style with black silk cord and the sword has a decorative element (menuki) between the ray skin and the hilt wrapping.
Cold Steel was founded in 1980 by Lynn C. Thompson and is based in California.
