If you still meet a GI who experienced World War 2, he knows this knife under the name "The Black Cat Knife". The soldiers brought the knife to America, where it still has cult status today. The embossing on the hilt of the Mercator is stamped in under the press and then painted out by hand after powder coating, just like in the old days. The K55K designation means "K" for Kaufmann (the original manufacturer), "55" for Hochstraße 55 (the original company address) and "K" for the symbol cat. The history of the knife dates back to 1867, when it was developed and manufactured by Heinrich Kaufmann & Söhne. The 9 cm long blade of the knife is made of non-stainless C75 carbon steel, which is easy to resharpen. The blade is opened two-handed and locked by lock-back. The handle is produced in the so-called steel box construction method and is made of powder-coated steel. This makes the handle very stable, flat and handy. A lanyard can be attached to the end of the handle.
