Kobun ist ein japanisches Wort, welches sich aus Militär und Unterwelt ableiten lässt und sich mit "Soldat" übersetzen lässt. Cold Steel macht hier schon klar, dass das Kobun ein leistungsfähiges Messer ist, welches die Wurzeln der japanischen Messerkunst mit einbezieht. Gefertigt ist die 14 cm lange Klinge des Messers aus dem japanischen AUS-8 Stahl, der für seine gute Schnitthaltigkeit bekannt ist. Mit seiner klaren und einfachen Linienführung kommt das Kobun sehr eindeutig daher und macht klar, dass es für die Praxis geschaffen ist. Extra modifiziert ist auch die Tanto-Spitze des Messers, welche dafür bekannt ist, sich leicht zu verbiegen oder gar zu brechen. Beim Kobun sieht das jedoch anders aus: Das Stiefelmesser verfügt über eine starke Klingenspitze, die durch den massiven Klingenrücken gestärkt wird. Verstaut wird das Messer in einer Secure-Ex-Scheide, die für maximalen Komfort Tek-Lok-kompatibel ist.
Cold Steel was founded in 1980 by Lynn C. Thompson and is based in California.
