Flavio Ikoma is a legendary designer at CRKT. His many expressive designs have led the way for a quarter of a century. When Ken Onion decided to create a new, innovative knife concept, an equally powerful lock was needed. It was clear to him that Flavio Ikoma was the man for the job! When Flavio presented his new concept to Ken Onion, he was completely blown away! His words: "I have been working in the knife business for 25 years and have brought a number of successful innovations to the market, but I have not yet seen such a perfect and convincing closure system!". Ken Onion tried to incorporate the lock into his patented design, but for space reasons this project was put on the back burner for the time being and Flavio's locking technology was brought to the foreground and new CRKT Deadbolt models were designed.

The strength of the lock often depends on the width of the knife. To prove that this is not the case with the new concept, Flavio Ikoma built the Deadbolt lock into a thin pocket knife with a long blade for the first time. After a few tests, it is clear that one of the most perfect and strongest mechanisms in the industry has been created. What is significant for the designer is that there are no conspicuous or unnecessary components, which means that nothing out of the ordinary is visible to the layman. But if you look a little deeper beneath the surface, you immediately notice that there is so much more to this innovation. The Deadbolt is not only one of the strongest mechanisms on the market, but also extremely easy to use. Finger safety is a given here, as they never cross the blade's path of rotation. In addition, the lock is maintenance-free, reliable and its design allows a lot of application possibilities.
It's not just about strength...
"There is a real testosterone economy out there," says Flavio. "There will be people who buy the Seismicâ„¢ just so they can try to make the mechanism fail." That's fine from his point of view, because he believes the real challenge will be that the strength is not only raised by the strength of the locking mechanism, but also by the flexibility of the design, the security and the ease of use. "You buy the car because it has 1000 horsepower," he grins, "but you like it because it's comfortable and reliable." He is proud to have developed a mechanism that raises the bar for strength, safety and ease of use across the board.
