Böhler N690
Böhler N690 steel is a stainless chromium steel with added cobalt, molybdenum and vanadium. It is manufactured by the Austrian company Voestalpine Böhler Edelstahl GmbH & Co KG. Böhler N690 steel is in the upper class. This steel is always used when cutting tools with a high cutting ability are required, which are above all flawless in terms of corrosion resistance. The material can be brought to a maximum hardness of 61HRC, which means that knives with N690 are generally very stable and above all wear-resistant. Due to the very high chrome content, the steel is not damaged even by high humidity. The high corrosion resistance is therefore perfect for driving knives and outdoor knives. Despite its high hardness, the steel, which is also called N690Co, can still be resharpened easily. In addition, N690's solid toughness makes it suitable for harder work such as splitting wood. Difference to Böhler N695: Böhler N695 steel is of rather lower quality than the very popular N690. The difference is mainly the absence of cobalt, which makes the N690 much more corrosion resistant, wear resistant and tougher than the N695.
→ The bottom line: Böhler N690 is a high-end steel that impresses with its excellent corrosion resistance, good wear resistance and toughness, as well as its more than solid sharpness and edge retention. Due to the many positive characteristics that this steel combines, it can be found mainly in the middle to upper price segment and usually appears from a price of 120€. Recommendation for: Outdoor knives, Utility knives, Survival/Bushcraft knives, Pocket knives, EDC's.
